What a job is worth
A drain clear is a couple of hundred dollars. A water heater swap is over a thousand. A repipe or a sewer line is five figures. The after-hours call is usually the expensive one, because nobody rings at 9pm about a dripping tap.

Cold snaps burst pipes. Holiday weekends clog drains. The first hot week brings water heaters and slab leaks. Every plumber knows which week the phone goes quiet and which week it doesn't stop, and the phone is never staffed for the second one.

How your customers say it
US: water heater, main shutoff, PEX, a service call. UK: boiler, stopcock, Gas Safe, a call-out. The receptionist speaks whichever your customers speak, in whichever accent you pick.
An urgent call, a considered quote and a repeat customer are not the same problem.

What does AI actually do for a plumbing business, concretely?
Less than the hype says and more than nothing: it answers and qualifies the calls you physically can't take, chases the quotes you don't have time to chase, and eats the admin: quotes you write at the kitchen table at 10pm, invoices that go out late because you were on the tools all day, and the same five questions answered forty times a week. What does an AI receptionist for plumbers cost per month?
After the build, every system carries a monthly fee. For the receptionist that's the phone line, the minutes and my monitoring, typically several hundred dollars a month at single-shop volumes. For a single automation it's a smaller retainer that covers running it and fixing it when a supplier changes something. I quote the exact figure with the build, before you sign anything.
You're a plumber yourself. Does that actually matter?
It matters in one specific way: I don't need your industry explained to me.
